About us

Our consulting team at work

Leadership Innovation Focus started because we kept seeing the same problem: talented people promoted into leadership roles with zero preparation. They got a title, maybe a budget, and a vague instruction to "manage the team." That is not enough.

We are a small consultancy based in Wales. Our clients include mid-size technology firms, NHS trusts, and third-sector organisations across the UK. Most of our engagements last between three and nine months. Some clients come back every year for a refresher.

Our approach is diagnostic. Before we suggest anything, we spend time watching how decisions actually get made in your organisation. Who speaks in meetings? Who gets interrupted? Where do good ideas stall? These observations tell us more than any survey.

We then design a programme around what we find. Sometimes that means one-to-one coaching for a CEO who struggles to delegate. Other times it means restructuring how a 40-person department runs its weekly stand-ups. The shape changes; the principle stays the same: leaders should make the people around them more effective, not less.

What we do

Executive coaching

Six or twelve sessions, typically fortnightly, with a single leader. We work on specific challenges: difficult conversations they keep postponing, decisions they second-guess, feedback they avoid giving. Each session runs 90 minutes. Between sessions, we assign concrete tasks, not reading lists.

Team alignment workshops

A full-day or two-day workshop for teams of 5 to 25 people. We facilitate structured exercises that surface hidden disagreements about priorities, roles, and decision rights. By the end, the team leaves with a written operating agreement they actually authored, not one we imposed.

Leadership strategy review

We audit your current leadership pipeline: who is ready for promotion, where the gaps are, what training has been tried before and why it failed. The output is a 12-month plan with quarterly milestones. We can run the plan ourselves or hand it to your internal HR team with full documentation.

Conflict mediation

When two senior leaders cannot work together, the whole organisation feels it. We mediate structured conversations over two to four sessions, each lasting two hours. Our goal is a working relationship, not friendship. About 70% of our mediation clients reach a durable agreement.

How an engagement works

  1. Discovery call (free, 30 minutes). You tell us what prompted you to look for help. We ask questions. No pitch deck.
  2. Diagnostic phase (1 to 3 weeks). We interview key people, observe meetings, and review any existing engagement or 360 data you have. We sign an NDA before this starts.
  3. Proposal and scope. We send a written proposal with clear deliverables, a timeline, and a fixed fee. No hourly billing surprises.
  4. Active engagement. Coaching sessions, workshops, or strategy work happens on a regular schedule. We send brief written progress notes after each session.
  5. Review and handoff. At the end of the engagement, we run a final review meeting with all stakeholders. You receive a summary document and any tools or templates we created for your team.

What clients say

Client avatar
"We brought them in after a merger left our management team fragmented. Within eight weeks, our Monday leadership meetings went from 90 minutes of posturing to 45 minutes of actual decisions."
— R. Davies, COO, a Cardiff-based software company
Client avatar
"I had been a department head for four years and never once received honest feedback about my leadership style. The coaching was uncomfortable at first. It was also the most useful professional development I have done."
— S. Patel, Head of Operations, NHS Trust
Client avatar
"The conflict mediation saved two of our best engineers from quitting. They had a genuine disagreement about architecture, and it had turned personal. The structured sessions gave them a way to argue about the work without attacking each other."
— J. Morgan, CTO, Swansea fintech startup

Frequently asked questions

How much does coaching cost?
Executive coaching starts at £2,400 for a six-session block. Team workshops are quoted per engagement because group size and duration vary. We always provide a fixed quote before any work begins.
Do you work remotely?
Yes. About half our coaching sessions happen over video call. Workshops work best in person, but we have run effective remote workshops for distributed teams using collaborative tools like Miro and structured breakout rooms.
What industries do you work with?
Technology, healthcare, higher education, and the charity sector make up most of our client base. The leadership challenges in these sectors overlap more than people expect: unclear decision rights, meeting overload, poor delegation habits.
Can you work with very small teams?
We regularly work with leadership teams of three to five people. Smaller groups often make faster progress because there are fewer dynamics to untangle.
What makes you different from a generic training provider?
We do not sell pre-packaged courses. Every engagement starts with a diagnostic. We watch your team work before we recommend anything. That means our advice fits your specific situation, not a textbook scenario.
How do I know if coaching is right for me?
Book a free 30-minute discovery call. We will ask you a few questions and be honest about whether we can help. If your challenge is better addressed by therapy, HR process change, or a different kind of consultant, we will tell you that directly.
